Sometimes I miss the mid 90s when I 1st moved to NYC. I miss the feel of the swing I experienced. I know it started way before that but thats when I got baptized in the music:) Im all for the music moving forward. What attracted me to the music was how close in relationship jazz is to gospel. I grew up playing old school gospel music which has that feeling. Although Im a college graduate with a jazz performance degree, I feel like a lot of the players lack the spirit and feeling of the music. This music is collard greens, neck bones and life experiences:) School is great but please hang around some cats that are respected by the elders of this music! They will tell you the truth! A blues is more than just chord changes, its a feeling and spirit! Go hear Mother & Decon sing devotion in church. They will swing you into the ground! Check out Bobby Timmons, Cannonball Adderley and Wynton Kelly We need feeling and spirit back in the music that relates to people and life! #JazzMusic
