Sometimes Im really amazed at how far God has brought me over the years. As a young boy, I used to dream of having my own sound equipment but mom and dad couldnt afford such an expensive luxury. The only choice was to take whatever could be found and sing until I became tired. One day while in our garage, i noticed the shock on an old screen door. Hmmmm, I thought. A perfect microphone. Next, I used kite string for the cord which was tied to an old lawn chair that served as a sound system. More string was used to connect the sound board to the speakers (old metal chairs) and they were positioned just as I had seen my hero Marvin Estep do on numerous occasions in different churches. Everything had to be done like Marvin did it. The only item missing was a mic stand. After using an old mop to spread tar on the roof of the garage, dad stuck it in the corner out of the way until I saw the mop could be something else. Once the base had hardened with the tar, I realized this was my mic stand. After hammering it in place, the microphone (the screen door shock) was duct taped to the mop. LOL I know to some that seems like a crazy story but to me, its a special memory of what God began training me to do very early in life. One of my first guitars was a broom cut in half and i would strum the bristles like guitar strings. The first record I ever made was from old construction paper. I took a sheet and drew a circle in the middle. I wrote my name in the middle of the record (just as I had seen it on records mom and dad had at home) then wrapped aluminum foil around it to be the album jacket. Several decades have passed since then and I am here now to say that God did give me the desires of my heart and I pray theyll always be used for His glory. Nite.
