Sometimes drawing feels a bit like fishing to me, casting out a line and seeing what I catch. like a good sportsman I put most of the catch back as I chase the big one which will make a good fishermans tale (or in my world, a sculpture). But sometimes when Ive gone fishing I become lost in that world and realise that the act of fishing is all that art is about. I mean there doesnt have to be an end product or a big fish because the experiece is the realisation and purpose to me. Thats enough metaphor for now :) the result of my exploratory drawing intrigues me and I even had to censor one tonight, seems that I got carried away with F words again lol. With nearly every drawing I make, there is no planning and I just draw what comes to mind, spontaneous, intuitive and telling of my underlying state. Its become the key to unlocking my creativity which is still in need of further persuasion so that I may one day touch creative freedom. The result of this approach is a right old mixed bag of drawings, most of which I dont understand. And I must admit I still feel a bit funny when I share my uglier drawings that simply have absolutely no charm, though having the courage to share my worst really helps me draw more freely. The atrocities yesterday have exposed the importance of freedom of expression and the importance of the simple act of drawing. The Creative will is needed to combat the Destructive will in our astonishingly crazy world.
