Sometimes it seems to me my head is a big dusty storage locker - TopicsExpress

Sometimes it seems to me my head is a big dusty storage locker where I put all kinds of stuff and then just forget it is there so when I need it, I have to buy that stuff again. When used, I put the new stuff in the storage locker too, forget it is there, get new stuff again...The metaphor here is to describe my translating process. I often look up English words and expressions, use them in a translation, and then forget their meaning so that when I come across a similar expression in another translation, I have to look it up again. Of course I have a ”Useful Expressions” file on my computer, and not just one, no, I have a bunch of those, an entire folder with links, articles, examples, Merriam-Webster and OxfordDictionaries quotes and what not — it is all there. In the storage locker... I don’t think I ever re-read all that “useful info” stuff once I’m done with the translation. The next translation gets a new “useful info” file securely locked and sealed... Does anyone of you have a similar problem? Do you have any idea of how to clean up the “storage locker”? Some piece of software perhaps that gets the thoughts organized and accessible so that one did not have to look a word up over and over again? I’d appreciate some advice :)
