Sometimes it takes the tragic death of a celebrity or an innocent - TopicsExpress

Sometimes it takes the tragic death of a celebrity or an innocent young man in Missouri to remind us how messed up this world can be... We see their faces everywhere and feel personally connected to their stories. Yet when these deaths happen in a foreign place, we learn to cope by putting up emotional barriers so that the weight of the world doesnt crush our souls. With time we become virtually numb to the horrifying stories we hear every day from across the word, and we focus our energy inwards. We think about how fragile our own lives are, how well avoid going down the same path, or how well teach our own children that this life really is worth living. The pain and sorrow that death drives in us all is something we must share with each other so that we can remember how to be human. Please don’t let artificial barriers keep us from grieving together and striving for change in a self-destructing world. As you remember Robin Williams and Mike Brown today, don’t forget the 200,000 innocent lives that have been stolen from us in Syria in recent years – including that of my own cousin – or the millions of lives that have been stolen from us in Gaza, Iraq, Nigeria, Sudan, Egypt, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Burma, Mali, DRC, and in far too many other locations across the world. Endless peace and love to you all, along with my sincere thanks for making this a life worth living.
