Sometimes life feels surreal – tonight I have my opera “The Blind” performed in Austria, and, at the same time, ballet “Mythos” (with my music) is performed in Germany. Last night was the performance of another new ballet “Vom Anfang” at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, also based on my music. I have not seen these wonderful productions. I feel a mix of happiness and sadness at the same time. Sadness – because I do not get a chance to enjoy this, especially Vienna, where The Blind is performed by the great Arnold Schoenberg Choir, but I feel happiness too, because this means that my music is out there on its own, being performed, re-interpreted, choreographed, staged. Sometimes I feel like a parent, grateful that the child is traveling the world without needing my protection or guidance, but also, somehow, feeling abandoned. Letting go is an important process, and I am grateful to all performers, dancers, choreographers, conductors, who take my music all over the world while I can concentrate on creating new works.
