Sometimes life just isn’t fair, especially when it comes to dogs - TopicsExpress

Sometimes life just isn’t fair, especially when it comes to dogs and kids with special needs. I’ve never before posted a request like this one, but this time it’s personal. I’m hoping that if we all reach out even just a little bit, we can help my hanai niece. Chehalis is an 8-year-old with traumatic brain injury and autism that have resulted in severe physical and developmental disabilities. This past Fourth of July her mother and 6-year-old sister both drowned in a tragic accident. Her dad, who is active military and was deployed at the time, is now back in the States and trying to get a specially trained dog to assist her in everyday activities that most of us take for granted -- like walking. The puppy, a Golden Lab named Tinkerbelle, is in mobility and autism training at Service Dogs for Independence in Tucson, AZ. I had no idea how expensive such a dog can be – and insurance doesn’t cover it! Can you help, either with a donation or by sharing this post? Service Dogs for Independence is a nonprofit organization (501-c3), so donations are tax deductible. If you donate, please write Chehalis’s and Tinkerbelle’s names on the check and the funds will be applied directly to her account. If donating by PayPal or charge card, just specify that the donation is for them. Contact info below. The pics are of Chehalis at our house this past summer (with Marly) and of Tinkerbelle, her puppy in training. Together, we can make a big difference in this little girl’s life.
