Sometimes old 60s songs still come to mind, and I recently - TopicsExpress

Sometimes old 60s songs still come to mind, and I recently remembered this one from when I was very young. It was unique because it was done completely in Japanese, by a popular young Japanese singer - it wasnt translated in English for American audiences, and it was still a great hit! The title of the song here Sukiyaki was meant for people to say the name - it was actually a poor choice for the name of the song. It also affected Japan in a good way, from what Ive read - the Japanese were finally beginning to recover from WWII (including the two atomic bombs we dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki) and they appreciated this song being received so well here in the U.S. The English words are provided with the song here - sweet, pretty, and sad at the same time! Kyu Sakamoto, the singer, sadly died on August 12, 1985, in his early 40s, in the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123, the deadliest single-aircraft accident in history.
