Sometimes one of the hardest things to work with is a horse that Bolts and runs off, so to bring a Horse that was so bothered back to this is something to be proud of, it is not so much about making him in control but about teaching him that there is nothing to run off from in the first place, in this sort of work he was short, he was sharp and electric, he was nervous of the pain that was about to come. So teaching him I can control his shoulders and hips and I can and will be respectful of his mouth all means that there is nothing to be afraid of and then he does not have to take over and run off, this sort of work pays off in so many ways as we build it, I can steer anywhere, I can stop as soon as I put any weight in my seat, and really important things I should feel is there is not resistance because we are as one, so everything tells me we are winning for everyone here, now the invention of this work and understanding of it as it applies to troubled Horses means that any Horse you are involved with in the future benefits from your new understanding and feel. As well to ride Horses like this then becomes what it should always have been, a thrill for the right reasons and not a thrill with your heart in your mouth and terror for him as it was before. If you build it piece by piece like this then you can add speed as you come along with your speed and the calmness will stay with your Horses, be aware of when they are travelling as hard as they can, and then only ask for the little more at the end instead of belting them every step after they reached full speed, this will keep their mind intack and they can then deliver that extra at the end instead of loosing their minds, it is so sad to watch them come to a line so stressed and mind almost completely gone and then they wonder why the pony club Horses often are considered nutz, Your riding should be fun for both or it Is fun for no one.
