Sometimes our children feel off or overwhelmed and they try to - TopicsExpress

Sometimes our children feel off or overwhelmed and they try to gain control by wanting the power of the scenario. As parents our automatic reaction can be to gain the power back and take control, however in doing so we create a ball game, with the power being sought for and everyone losing. When we see “power” becoming the goal (either by our children or ourselves) it’s alright to take a step back and talk with our family about working together for common goals. We all want our children to thrive individually. We love to see them know their own minds and stand up for their own beliefs and opinions. However, it’s alright to point out the difference of what serves a person individually and what serves the group as the whole. Fairness and consideration is what works for peace amongst everyone and sometimes we all have to give a little to create that peace at home. That is why I love the analogy of an orchestra, as parents we aren’t the controllers, merely the conductors. We know that each player can play beautifully on their own, and their song is perfect, but a conductor makes sure that when played together everyone works as a whole, making a perfect chorus. Each player can then go off alone and play their own song.
