Sometimes people ask me what tragic event was behind me writing my Requiem. The answer is, not any one particular grief of my own, but the grief that is common to everyone who lives in a world that is simultaneously so beautiful and so painful. The grief of people like Matt Herbster who lost his wife last year while still in his 30s; or like Elisa Chodan who lost her father a couple years ago while still in her teens. And tonight, my wifes family at the loss of her aunt today, and my friends Ted and Jennifer Horton Miller at the loss of their eight-month-old daughter today. For these people, and so many more, and you, and me- thats who the Requiem is for. We all need mercy, peace, and Christs rest.
