Sometimes science works in mysterious ways: a discovery is made, but its full significance is not realized until many years later. In 1969, two Ukrainian scientists, Klim Churyumov and Svetlana Gerasimenko discovered a comet now called 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko. Today, November 12th 2014, the Philae lander of the European spacecraft Rosetta successfully landed on this comet in a historic first for human space exploration. This scientific achievement is the beginning of a detailed, firsthand study of comet composition that may give us clues about the formation of our solar system! #UkrainianScientists #Philae #Rosetta #CometLanding Images via Astronomy Now Magazine and scienceogram.org
