Sometimes the best of intentions can have unintended consequences. - TopicsExpress

Sometimes the best of intentions can have unintended consequences. PETA has been suing to stop the Brasstown, North Carolina New Years Eve Possum Drop for the past few years. Traditionally, at midnight on New Years Eve, a live opossum was lowered in a clear, plastic ball, then released back into the wild. This year, in response to the PETA lawsuits, festivity organizers have decided to KILL the opossum prior to the drop, thereby avoiding any charges of cruelty to animals. (Opossum hunting is legal in North Carolina, so no law is being broken.) PETA, we know you meant well, but having a DEAD opossum is NOT a better alternative to having a live opossum thats released back into the wild. Brasstown, just an FYI: New York City uses a Waterford crystal ball with LED lights. Its reusable and classier. Just a thought. https://thedodo/possum-drop-killed-before-906336995.html
