Sometimes the best part about being a lawyer is the privilege of sending awful letters to awful people. Take this one (it was my favorite of the year!): Dear Ms. S...: We represent your former employee, Mr. Ronald C... It has come to our attention that on May 10, 2013, you created the website argosanswerto... for the purpose of publishing and distributing defamatory content in violation of state and federal legislation. It has further come to our attention that this website has been optimized for search engine purposes using the keywords, “and,” “C...,” “deception,” “lies,” and “Ron” which has heightened the dissemination of this material and lead to an exponential increase in Mr. C…’s injuries. We can discern no legitimate commercial justification for your use of this website. Your actions are indefensible, as the numerous state and federal cases involving opportunists such as yourself regularly demonstrate. Moreover, your actions have resulted in two counts of tortious interference of contract, over $30,000 of compensatory injuries, and irreparable damage to Mr. C…’s professional reputation. You are hereby on notice that your actions are also in violation of 18 Pa. Cons. Stat. §5702 (pertaining to unauthorized voice recording). This course of action has exposed you, your son, and your multiple businesses to further civil and criminal liability. Under the circumstances, we demand that you immediately shut down this website and that you immediately cease and desist from further publication of the offending material. We wish to receive your assurances that you have done so, accompanied by proof thereof, by March 4, 2014. Otherwise our client shall, without further notice to you, take such legal action as he deems necessary to assert his statutory rights to damages, lost profits, and the costs thereof, and otherwise to protect his interests based on your acts in violation of federal and state law, including tortious interference of contract, tortious breach of contract, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and compensatory damages. It is further understood that your compliance with this directive will not preclude Mr. C…’s subsequent legal action against you, your son, and your businesses.
