Sometimes the bravest, strongest thing we can do is to not use our power to control or overwhelm or lift our own selves up solely, but to show our most deep vulnerabilities and imperfect human qualities. To not pretend we are on top because we deserve it when the world is at our feet. To not fool ourselves into thinking that we are somehow made of something different. People may perceive this as weakness or, especially in a highly-individualized stereotypically-masculine patriarchal society, a disappointment or a deficit, a fault or a failure, a problem. Even simple things like being nice are far too often overlooked as secondary in a greater system of “getting ahead”. Getting ahead of what? Being decent to each other and helping one another is not given near enough value. We are generally too overwhelmed and overworked by our own personal schedules and social lives… too many options to play as we try moving past or beyond others instead of actively moving together. There is too great a focus on trying to improve oneself and one’s own situation without seeing others as active members in our lives for their own sake and as part of something greater in its own right, and we much too frequently fail to realize that perhaps the best way to fully live our dreams and improve ourselves is by investing in others. - Rew
