Sometimes we can discover some nice surprises just by using GOOGLE SEARCH. Just found this nice REVIEW of Erin Hay ===================== Welcome to The Country Classics - A Tim Blake Network Property H.W. Longfellow wrote, “Between the dark and the daylight, When the night is beginning to lower, Comes a pause in the day’s occupations, That is known as Children’s Hour.” Fifty years ago it was during that time, whether an hour, or the time before sleep took over, that I listened to country music on the radio. As technology improved, I heard beautiful songs once relegated to AM stations and a four inch radio speaker. Just like wonderment when, after watching black and white television, movies turned to color and Dorothy was no longer in Kansas, songs by Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and Ray Price had a full vocal range. The music was, and still is beautiful. Beauty was there all along, just waiting to be discovered. As winds blow across Missouri’s farms, cities, and towns, a star shines brightly in Nashville. Her name is Erin Hay. Fifty years after my “Childrens Hour” it is a pleasure to tell you about Erin Hay, writing from my small town in Missouri, far from Nashville. Country music artist Erin Hay At age seven, when Erin heard Dolly Parton sing for the first time, her love and admiration for traditional Country Music began to grow. I know that feeling, as do you. Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Jack Greene and Roy Acuff became Erin’s influences, and it was through them that Erin was introduced to stories of Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry. Erin Hay knew in her heart that Nashville was where she wanted to be. The real turning point came after a visit backstage at the Grand Ole Opry and a meeting with Roy Acuff. That was the environment she longed for. She wanted to sing on that stage and knew she had some dues to pay. I think those dues have been paid, but just as I remember sitting in the audience at the original Ryman in the sixties, who am I to say so? It’s Erin Hay’s ability to touch those memories that is so precious. Erin moved to Nashville in 1991 and recorded her first independent album in 1992. Why did it take seventeen years for me to discover Erin Hay’s music? Between Texas and Bakersfield, I take the blame. Sometimes if you look a little less you see a whole lot more. I was there when Bill, Buck, Merle, Connie, Waylon, Willie, and so many others were young and got their start. Ray Price, Hank, Leftie, and Webb carried the eternal country music flame at the time, encouraging youngsters that are legends today. Perhaps now is the time for more encouragement. What others say about Erin Hay: “Erin is a great singer. Maybe the Opry will find that out someday. I love her singing.” – Loretta Lynn “I am so proud of the record Erin did on “Tomorrow Is Forever.” I think she did a beautiful job. It’s always been one of my favorite songs; and it touched me that it was someone else’s favorite as well. It’s old, but so am I! Hopefully, songs live forever. It’s always nice to have new, young artists record them.” – Dolly Parton When it’s too Country for everyone else Country music artist Erin Hay Erin Hay experienced great success overseas as well, where country music is very strong. Saying “If it’s too Country for everyone else it’s just right for me,” fans everywhere love her music. “You’re A Lesson I’ve Already Learned” was played one day on a Texas radio station, and I knew I was listening to someone special. To demonstrate, let’s look at Erin’s successes. Speaking about her CD “Honky Tonk Heaven” Erin said “I had a lot of input in all aspects of putting that CD together, which is great about being an independent artist, no big label executives telling you what to do. Promoting it was a lot of fun, but I owe most of its success to my producer, Lonnie Ratliff, who is the world’s greatest promoter, at least where my music is concerned.” “The Circle” was released on Dec 11, 2001, and is the CD Dolly Parton references. This is the track list: False Eyelashes; High on a Hilltop; BJ the DJ; Tomorrow Is Forever; The Circle; His & Hers; If Teardrops Were Pennies; I Hope You Turn Me Down; Walk on By; Fire I Can’t Put Out, A; My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You; and Sometimes I Go It’s time for you to listen to Erin Hay’s music. This page will open in a new window so you won’t lose your place. As you listen to songs like “There Goes My Everything” or “A Fire I Can’t Put Out” you’ll get a full appreciation for the range and strength of Erin Hay’s beautiful voice. Her rendition of “Walk On By” prompted me to write a feature about Leroy Van Dyke, since Leroy only lives 22 miles away from me. But most of all, I simply played song after song. As the memories formed, I softly said “Wow” throughout the night, and the music played. Listen to the dobro on “Jamboree On The Mountain” and the Goosebumps form while your toe starts tapping to good country music. Erin Hay and “The Collection” In October 2006 Erin released “The Collection” which features twenty-three tracks: I’d Be In Memphis, Leaning On A Rock That Never Rolls, Midnight At The Old Soldiers’ Home, Harper Valley P.T.A., Ten Thousand Teardrops Ago, Take Me Home Country Roads, Given Old Memories Away, Somebody’s Angel, The Tree, Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me, Farther Along, If Teardrops Were Pennies, The Circle, False Eyelashes, Walk On By, My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You, Tennessee Moon, Honky Tonk Heaven, There Goes My Everything, Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad, Mirror, Mirror (On The Wall,) Honky Tonk Girl, I Got The Blues Again About the song “The Circle” Erin Hay’s “The Circle” tells about singing on the Opry stage. It is my opinion that she will reach that goal some day. We must remember that we have help along the way to our goals. “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16). The gospel version is “This Little Light Of Mine”. Each of us can be a light for others in much the same way, touching others with our lives. With her wonderful music Erin Hay touches many people. When I asked, Erin said “I just love traditional good ole country music, songs that really make you feel something and have meaning.” Somebody’s Angel Erin’s CD Somebody’s Angel features 16 tracks. She talks about each one in “Thoughts From The Artist“. The tracks are Big City, Fool #1, Take Me Home Country Roads, Somebody’s Angel, Walkin’ The Floor Over You, Faded Love, Givin’ Old Memories Away, Cry Like Memphis, Among My Souvenirs, Ode To Billy Joe, The Tree, Poor Folks (w/ Ernie Ashworth,) Oklahoma Hills, Seed Catalog, Don’t Worry and Farther Along Blue Country Song “My new CD, Blue Country Song, is just about mixed and we should hopefully be pressing it and have it available for sale in a few months. It will be my 6th album, but will be due out probably in Spring or early Summer of 2009,” Erin said. Country music artist Perley Curtis Erin Hay is married to country music recording artist Perley Curtis. I’ll tell you all about Perley Curtis in a feature article coming out soon. Erin and Perley live in Nashville and continue to perform. The duo is expecting a child in July of 2009. You can see Erin Hay and Perley Curtis on CD Baby Concluding this feature titled “Get to know Erin Hay” I am reminded the every now and then an artist comes along – those few times in a lifetime – singing our memories and beautiful original songs. A tear in the corner of an eye, or a lump in ones throat, is the first sign that you heard something exceptional. There is a difference between songs we know, and songs that touch memories on the canvas of our lives. To hear those songs again, along with fresh new music, is priceless. This time the artist is Erin Hay.
