Sometimes we wonder why we have gone through a certain trial or hardship seemingly without any one to stand by our side. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 may offer some explanation to us. It says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." The thing that we learn here is that the things that we experience and not just for ourselves alone, but they are to make us more fit to be ministers of God to others. We learn that we sometimes go through things alone so that we will be able to feel sympathy for those around us who seem to be comfortless in their time of trial. We learn that God works all things together for good to those who are called according to his purpose. This is why people who have experienced certain things in their life are often the best suited to minister to those who are experiencing similar challenges. Rather than get upset at others who have let us down in our time of need, we need to thank God for His faithfulness but also determine to be available to the Lord to be His instrument of comfort and encouragement to those that we can see around us.
