Sometimes, when a #banker who runs a crime family has to die, well he dies.. Dubbed the “Dapper Don” by the press, Gotti became infamous when he took over the Gambino crime syndicate in 1985 by having its leader, Paul Castellano, murdered in front of Sparks Steak House on East 46th Street in Manhattan. Several juries, on account of juror intimidation, bribery, and the use of police informants, failed to convict him of serious charges three times between 1987 and 1990. He was finally convicted in 1992 on a number of charges, including Castellano’s murder, with the help of testimony from fellow mobsters and police audiotapes on which he bragged about ordering the murder; he was sentenced to life in federal prison.
