WORK LOCATION: Traffic Maintenance Facility is located in Renton, however field work will take place throughout King County. WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday; 8hr/day, 40hr/week, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime. Mandatory overtime and weekends may be required in emergency and workload situations. Job Duties: PRIMARY DUTIES PERFORMED: Traffic/Roads Maintenance Section is responsible for providing traffic maintenance services within the unincorporated areas of King County and contract cities. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs, pavement markings, and roadway striping applications for roadways within all of unincorporated King County and Contracted Cities & Municipalities. Specific duties include: · Apply paint and/or thermoplastic for crosswalks, arrows, legends, channelization islands, stop bars, and lane lines · Install pavement markings such as traffic buttons · Operate and maintain paint machinery including compressors, spray guns, thermoplastic applicator and center-line striping machines · Maintain and update daily log showing activities, make necessary reports on work order inventory system · Keep brush, trees, and other objects clear of traffic signs. · Provide proper traffic control by flagging or placing signs, cones, and barricades as appropriate to ensure crew and public safety. · Operate jackhammer, air compressor, and common hand tolls, in the assembly, repair, and removal of street signs and posts. · Dig post-holes and set posts. · Reading various road maps and construction blueprints. · Lift, carry, move, or handle up to 50-pound bags, tools, equipment, and other objects to complete any of the above-referenced functions. · Respond courteously to general public. · Other duties as assigned. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills: REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: · Minimum of two (2) years experience in sign and marking installation; OR any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work. · Knowledge of and skill in using and maintaining paint, preparation equipment, and supplies · Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of signs, thermoplastics, buttons (raised pavement markers), and striping. · Skill in reading maps and drawings. · Skill in safely operating vehicles and equipment · Strong communication skills · Ability to following verbal and written instructions · Ability to work in a team environment. · Ability to lift, carry, move, or handle up to 50 pounds · Knowledge of proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials · Knowledge in the use and care of hand tools and equipment · Knowledge of safety procedures for traffic sign installation and maintenance activities, or other heavy manual labor areas (hazardous materials). · Ability to read maps, including Thomas Brothers. · Ability to perform duties involving physical labor including bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting, pushing, and twisting. · Ability to perform work outdoors and in inclement weather. · Ability to adhere to federal, state, and county mandated safety regulations and policies. · Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. · Ability to have predictable and reliable attendance. · Ability to follow directions. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: · Possession of a High School Diploma or GED · Computer skills; able to use MS Office platform · Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) · Possession of a valid WA State CDL (Class B) NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S): · Possession of a valid WA State Driver’s License · Possession of a valid Washington State Flagging Certificate, valid CPR and First Aid certifications OR ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
