Sometimes you love an image but cannot articulate why. And you - TopicsExpress

Sometimes you love an image but cannot articulate why. And you worry how others will perceive it. I find the ones where I break some rules lead to this feeling. Why do I like it? Will others get what I am trying to say? Or was it all just taking a risk that did not pay off? Still I will give you some advice I live by: Take risks with your composition even if they don’t pay off! They will! Sooner or later they will. And as you are willing to take more and more risks, the diamonds rise to the top more often. You can’t impress everyone. Don’t try. Some will not get it. That is good! I have said this before; If everyone always likes your stuff, you are not pushing hard enough to experiment past your boundaries. So I love this shot but had a hard time describing why. Still I submitted it to Bill Hurter for inclusion in his Amherst books and it was selected for the front cover. Wow! The risk paid off! This was at a real wedding and I had already gotten a great shot before and we were moving to a location for the ceremony. I had a few seconds to play and experiment without having to feel restricted to safe shots. Beckstead Playtime! Here is the link to the book: amherstmedia/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AM&Product_Code=1793&Category_Code=W By the way, the risk in including this shot for submission paid off in the long run, I now have a new book deal myself with Amherst! Fun!
