Sometimes, you read about a person doing something amazing for other people--strangers, just because he feels he should. Recently, Dawn and I became aware of such a person, and we found out that he had a special interest in a project called Beads of Courage. Dawn read up and watched some video about the children who collect Beads of Courage. They are, generally, childhood cancer victims: They expect to undergo many unpleasant treatments to overcome their sickness. For each treatment, the participating hospital gives the child a bead--different colors, different designs, just a small memento of their triumph over an unpleasant treatment. Then, we found out the children liked to store their beads in some type of container----often in a turned bowl with one bead included in the cap. Well, we sent a donation and got our first 100 Beads of Courage! We hope to give them all to turners who promise to make a lidded bowl for a child who participates in the Beads of Courage. We know our customers are PEN turners, but we hope we can help Beads of Courage with a few hundred bowls this year. YOU want to make one?? Just email us with your address, or add one or a couple to your order---we hope to see some examples of YOUR work posted here---we will be showing a simple design in the next few days, just to give you the idea. Hope you choose to participate---we are fortunate to be healthy, this is so little to give to a young person who was not as fortunate as you and me. Dawn & Ed---Happy New Year!!
