Sometimes you see a piece of journalism and think, darn it, we - TopicsExpress

Sometimes you see a piece of journalism and think, darn it, we need more like that. A tip of the Stetson to the New York Times and columnist Tom Friedman for this weeks in-depth interview with President Obama about his foreign policy. Also a hat-tip to the President for giving them the time to answer difficult questions. Listen, I sometimes get exasperated with the Times and, yes, even Tom Friedman, and I dont always agree with the President and his policies. But this interview represents the kind of quality journalism of which we need more, a lot more. I am sick of sound-bite journalism, of complex issues being boiled down to sensationalist headlines and online click-bait. What we have in this interview is depth and perspective - a deep insight into the thinking of our President. I strongly recommend you watch the entire interview on line. Whether you agree or disagree with what the President has done on the world stage, I dont think you can doubt, after hearing him talk, that he has approached the multitude of crisis with deep thought and analysis. This is an intelligent man who knows his history and geopolitics. That, of course, doesnt mean he is right in his judgements and conclusions. The Presidents perspective and decision making can and should be challenged. But first it must heard. And here Friedman and the Times deserve credit. I hope that we hear similar depth from the Presidents critics. And then debate these important issues with nuance and seriousness they deserve. Did you already see the interview? Did you read Hillary Clintons interview with Jeffrey Goldberg in The Atlantic where she was critical of Obamas foreign policy? What do you think?
