Sometimes you’ve just gotta cut it off, you know what I’m saying? We have all heard a lot about how the Lord puts us through the fire to burn away the impurities, that He chisels away at the imperfections, etc., and all of that is true. But sometimes a chisel just won’t do – He wants us to use a hatchet and cut the problem completely off! Maybe it’s a bad habit, maybe it’s a loose tongue, maybe it’s a gossiping tongue, maybe it’s a jealous heart, maybe it’s an envious heart, maybe it’s a friend who brings you down, maybe it’s a relationship that keeps you in a pit of frustration or despair, maybe it’s a string of bad decisions. Whatever “it” is, if chiseling away at it isn’t doing the trick, take a hatchet to it and cut it off! The Lord calls us to live a victorious life. And sometimes for that to happen, we have to take drastic measures and cut something or someone completely out of our lives. What do you need – a chisel or a hatchet? “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful” (John 15:2). “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
