“Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel - TopicsExpress

“Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are committing in the dark, each man in the room of his carved images? For they say, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land.’” Ezekiel 8:12 Then, the elders of Israel were concerned with appearances, thinking no one would know what they were doing in secret. Not even God. But God knew everything they were doing, and He revealed their secret actions to Ezekiel. They might have been able to hide from others, but they could not hide from God because God sees and knows all things we do. How easily we of today can approach life like these elders, focused on our appearances and trying to control what others think about us. We may be able to fool others and shape their attitudes but we can’t fool God. People may see us and think they know us, but in actuality they don’t. What they really know is what seems to be true on the surface, how we appear…what we say…and what they see us do. Perhaps we have our own “room of idols,” filled with things we secretly worship. But God knows the things and interests that truly dominate our hearts. He can enter our thought life or know our true feelings and attitudes. Today, remember that God knows everything about you. He knows your thoughts, not just your appearance or what other people see or know about you. He sees and knows your attitude and intentions. Don’t try to hide from Him like Adam and Eve did in the garden of Eden. Be honest with Him, humble yourself and let Him deal with your sins for you. You cannot do it by yourself. He alone has the capability to do it, if you let Him.
