Song For The Day - January 16, 2015 In keeping with todays dedication to my good friend David, The Song For The Day is one written by our greatest songwriting hero, Danny OKeefe. Danny put out his first solo album in 1971 and followed that one up with a string of excellent albums thru out the 70s, culminating with my favorite, The Global Blues. Davids favorite was Breezy Stories, but we both loved them all. There was a song somewhere on a Danny OKeefe album for just about any situation that we went thru. We could always find a song to relate to no matter what was happening in our lives. We literally spent days listening to and trying to play OKeefe songs, including this one thats Song For The Day. Dannys body of work is awe inspiring and of extremely high quality. I have to fight the urge to rattle off a dozen or so of my favorites, because they tend to change from time to time as life dictates. If I could only take one songwriters music with me to that proverbial island, its this gentlemans music Id take. It has sustained both of us for most of our lives. Seeing Danny perform live is truly at the top of my bucket list. We both loved this guys songs for our own personal reasons, but we both agreed that there was no one better. David even named his cat, Louie the Hook, after a song on an early album. Theres not much else to say really. If you love good music and words then you should be listening to Dannys music.
