Song of Solomon Devotional Day 15: Chapter 3 v 1-4: Peace & Security Against the Night Terrors - “What is this coming up from the wilderness like columns of smoke...? Behold, it is the traveling couch of Solomon; sixty mighty men around it, of the mighty men of Israel. All of them are wielders of the sword, expert in war; each man has his sword at his side, guarding against the terrors of the night...” The word goes forth that the king approaches, exalted upon a seat of honor surrounded by SIXTY of his mighty men, men of valor who guard against the TERRORS OF THE NIGHT. This beautiful passage speaks to the heart of the fearful Christian who has passed or is passing through a “dark night of the soul.” Perhaps you are or have recently been through a terrible trial; perhaps you have fallen into sin. . . AGAIN and wonder whether you will ever be free, whether the Lord could still love you, whether you could ever again be useful to the kingdom. . . Perhaps the Lord is calling you into new territory, new depths of commitment and the enemy of your soul has been harassing you, reminding you of how UNQUALIFIED you are. Perhaps… Brother and sister Christian, whatever your dark night of the soul, look up! Your redemption draws nigh. Your King, the Lord Jesus Christ is coming to you, invading your darkness. He approaches, not quiet and lowly, but as the Warrior Christ of Revelation 19, highly exalted with POWER & MAJESTY. The sixty mighty men represent a double-portion of strength and authority (the kings of Israel usually had an elite force of guards referred to as the 30). If you will run to receive Him in your time of trial, doubt and fear, Christ will guard you against the dark terrors of the night and free your soul to worship, commune with and serve Him completely unhindered, UNASHAMED! Look up! Jesus is near. Run to Him!
