Songtown Citizen Post by Andi Renfree The Write Stuff Its a crazy world. Everything is on the rise except for our pay checks. We struggle, we strive, we dream, we plan...then Life comes along and shakes everything up again. How do you keep it together, when everything goes wrong? Me? I write. I write to make sense of things. I write to bring more beauty to the world. I write to prove that what hasnt killed me has strengthened me. I write to bring things, that lie beneath the surface, to the light so that others may learn from them or find hope. I write because I have to, Im compelled to, Im meant to. Notice that nowhere in the prior text have I mentioned writing for the money. :) That isnt the why of why I write...but it can be a result of the writing, if Im lucky. Many of us are trying to find a way to turn this writing thing into a living. We want a Publishing deal, we want to work with Artists, we want to perform our songs before crowds of willing ears. And we want it NOW! But what if Now is not the time? What if we could look into the future and see that we will still be sitting here with the same hopes, dreams, and goals 10 years from now? Would you be able to sustain the passion, the drive, the focus? For me, THAT is the Big Question that we should all be asking ourselves. If you are treating this writing thing as a means to an end, then maybe it isnt for you. If its something that, like me, you are going to do until the day you die because its a part of your DNA then maybe, just maybe, youve got a shot at this thing. The only control we have is over our own actions and efforts. I challenge you today to live your life, be yourself, keep the music alive inside of your soul. And write because it keeps you sane...because it gives your life balance and meaning. Thats the write stuff, to me. Andi
