Songwriters, Wow, wasnt that a party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is strange the things that tie people together and the results of those connections. Sports often bring a shared identity to fans but often results in strong negative reactions and violence (no not always.) Religion can bring us together but does so mainly by defining who we are leaving out. Politics can connect us but leaves a unpleasant after-taste due to the bitterness and bile often associated with political confrontation. Music, however, seems to bind us tightly in a warm blanket of love and smiles and songs. That is what we (Cheryl and I) live for and it is what you delivered last night in spades. Thanks so much to everyone who came to celebrate with on the 4th Annual Doverlaff Songwriters Circle BBQ. It was a fantastic turn out and hundreds of fine songs were sang. The party continued until 2 am. Wow, 16 hours later and I am almost recovered. It was great having several new faces and voices join us in this celebration of songwriting and friendship. Thanks to Sarah and Blaine, Pretty Gritty, for coming and adding that special something to the festivities. Thanks to Kim, a not songwriter and Artichoke regular who joined us for the first time. And to Therese Michaud who brought her dautghter, Molly Van Zandt to join us for the first time. Thanks to neighbor Jane, who came with Karyn Ann and managed to stop by today to invite us to a party and jam. Unfortunately, we were cleaning up until it was either too late or we were too tired to take up the offer. Maybe, next time. I should also thank all of our neighbors who tolerated the constant singing and the fleet of cars parked around the neighborhood and did not call the police on us. Special thanks to our great friend, John Sinclair (Chef Wang) for manning the BBQ to grill a ton of chicken and sausages. Also to William Stafford, for stopping by early and pitching in to get us set up in time for the onslaught. It felt like a river of people arriving for a while. Our next regular meeting of the Doverlaff Songwriters Circle will be Wednesday, September 17. We will start, as usual at 7 pm and play until around midnight. We hope you can come. By the way, there were a few left behind items including Daniel Cecils wine tote, an Hawaiian beer cosy and a plastic head band (I hope that is what they are called.) If any of these belong to you, let me know and we will work out how to get back to you.
