Songwriters are the heart and soul and very foundation of our industry. If you are serious about your career and wish to get paid for your work, you must belong to a PRO (Performance Right Organization.) If you are a supporter of music and the artists you love, you will go to great lengths to do whatever you can to support their musical movement and push it forward. In the digital era it is easy to access all of the music you love by a variety of methods especially with an ever growing list of digital/online radio stations to choose from. Conversely a songwriter can reach millions of new potential fans by getting their music on online radio stations. What many may not be aware of or even stop to think about is these online radio stations exist to make money......they are a business (bottom line) and their bottom line is what they are concerned with the most. Businesses will do everything within their power to keep themselves as lean as possible in an effort to maximize revenue but at what cost.
