Sons and Grandsons of Kinnelon- I am currently a teacher at Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School in Hangzhou, China. Last week we were visited by a group of American high school students. Turns out that they are a great bunch of friendly, highly intelligent and energetic kids from Rumson, New Jersey. They asked me where I was from and I said Kinnelon, and one young man said “My father was from Kinnelon.” The pictures below are of me and the class, and me and Mr. Thomas Martello, son of James (Jimmy) Martello- class of 78 (thank you, Virginia Salese). Young Martello will be entering Princeton next year. I was genuinely impressed by this young man and his classmates. It is amazing how small this world is becoming. I remember that Jimmy Martello and I were in a Spanish class together with Mrs. Mulqueen until one of us got a different schedule. It feels like that was more than a century ago. I wonder what either of us would have said had someone come up to us and told us that I would meet Jimmys son in China in 35 years. I did not know Jimmy Martello well. But I think I can say without fear of contradiction that he would have been very, very proud of this outstanding young man.
