Sony blows it in the worst possible way. When the bully appears, - TopicsExpress

Sony blows it in the worst possible way. When the bully appears, do you capitulate? No. And this is not the first time people have mocked what so richly deserves to be mocked. None other than Chaplin in 1940 (when we were still at peace with Germany) made The Great Dictator and had the courage to condemn Hitler and fascism publicly (and let us recall that this film was considered controversial at the time - which says horrible things about our more pragmatic inclinations). It is one of the great speeches of all time all the more so because it so accurately reflects Chaplins views - the fourth wall is utterly demolished. In the film the speech is given by a double of a terrible dictator who, after many plot twists, tries to set things right. What matters though is that in the face of pure evil, Chaplin said this. I like to see it every year at this time, but even more so after the epic Sony flunking. Let me be abundantly clear, Seth Rogan is not Chaplin. I like provocateurs and think they have an important place in the culture. Rogan goes places that seem just plain mean-spirited and misogynistic.. just because he feels like it. I find it hard to support him in this because I think hes rather obnoxious and just too pleased with himself. I dont think I am though - thats not my impetus for this. My displeasure is aimed at the lack of leadership within Sony and the motion picture industry that allows the tin-plated with delusions of God-hood to tell them what to do. Id vastly prefer that The Interview be played publicly for free in town squares across the country then this pitiful and lame reaction that only empowers that which all of humanity has a stake in repudiating.
