Soon after we got back from our cross country trip, we got a new toy delivered from France via Pellenc in California. A wire raiser! Isnt that just exciting! It will lift the VSP (vertical shoot positioning) wires in the trellis. This lifts the shoots up allowing better air flow to the inner parts of the vine and exposing the grapes to the sun (very important for reds and also for Roussanne). Before we had this, we had to manually raise the wires and position the shoots - 20 miles worth! double sided! multiple times over the summer! Now we can goof off - well not exactly. We still have to go behind and pick up the stragglers. Thats Silass red shirt, me driving and Louisa took the pics. Everyone else was there too somewhere hiding in the vines. That grape variety is Roussanne, if you are wondering, and its carrying ~9 tons/acre right now.
