Soon afterwards, a reader submitted the following:(PUBLISHED) Dear Editor, You may be assured the very positive meeting/broadcast on the news of no indictment of anybody for anything in the cruel death (homicide) of unarmed, benign Eric Garner on Staten Island, committed by multiple NYC police, would not have taken place if an onlooker had not taken an audio video of the event, causing riots of empathic frustration and anger here and elsewhere. The new witness of cellphone video-camera images in this and other cities has been instrumental in preventing a cover-up and downplay of the improper illegal actions of some police and enabled the rescue of the rights of civilians in unjust confrontations where the police have all the power and support of government. It has prompted the experimental use by police of carrying miniature video cams in NYC. As always, it is truth that is the crucial element in healthy law enforcement and peaceful relations. It is why I wrote the enclosed poem: CANDID TRUTH From the moment we are able to see After a wet world of touch and smell. Many senses inform the young body, Natures feedback whether doing well. Eyes claim the focus of understanding, Informing worlds of other sensation. Ultimately relating data commanding Decisions crucial to survivals duration. Driving growth seeks learning sources Chocked cornucopias found everywhere. Usually gathered from abstract sources, Of many learned expert, quoted seer. Informed by endless authorities about, The power of factually tested evidence. Still leaving niches of reasonable doubt, An argument for accidental coincidence. Now cell technology in countless hands, Gifts the searcher true vision of the birds. Placing the distant body in realitys stands, A video-photo is worth a thousand words. ~Sy Schleimer photos courtesy NY Daily News
