Soon as you start to learn your camera, you will want to upgrade from your basic kit lens to better glass. A prime lens, telephoto lens, and a walk around lens come to mind. Moe Speaks gave me the tip that you can rent a lens on a Friday, keep it all weekend to check it out, and return on a Monday, you will basically pay for one day rental. So try that out for yourself, or borrow a friends. After a few shots with a fast lens (f.2.8 to f1.8) you may want to purchase a lens for an upgrade.
