Sooo.... Until we did the pre-close walk through I had completely forgotten that the house was set up with a central vaccuum system. The sellers had never used it and had I idea if it worked at all. I saw the hose for it in the attic but after at least 10 years up there in the hottest attic in the universe and with part of that time living with rodents I was not bringing that hose down to check the system. However I was needing a new vaccuum! Pretty desperately! Coincidentally the vacuum store is next to Publix so I stopped in for a chat one day. They came out to check it out today and they were completely shocked at its condition. Normally on these systems (over 30 years old) he sees a suction of around 40-50. Ours was at 120. Then he looked at the garage unit and was even more surprised. Typically, especially when they are left unplugged, there is a thick layer of gunk inside the canister and the bolts are routed through and stuff. Ours was perfectly clean! Inside and out. Not just no rust but clean! So for the price of a service call and new hose and tools (a total of 275 plus tax because I got the upgraded hose and tools) I have a perfectly working central vacuum system! I am so excited!!!!
