Soooo... To all of my friends and family asking about how my ultrasound went today... Heres our baby! We were hit with some news today that is scary and will need to be monitored. We go back for another ultrasound in 6 weeks. Our baby was diagnosed with a Choroid Plexus Cyst. These are seen in only 1-2% of all ultrasounds done and are extremely rare. They are often associated with a chromosomal condition. Most often, Down Syndrome or Edwards Syndrome (Trisomy 18). Trisomy 18 is where it is seen most. Trisomy 18 is where the baby gets 3 copies of the 18th chromosome instead of the normal 2. If this happens, babies are given a 5-10% chance to survive past the first year with all sorts of kidney, heart, lung, and brain function issues. We have gone through genetic testing and so far down syndrome has been ruled out. We did the last part of testing today blood work wise, and will find out in the next week those results... They want me to do an Amniocentesis, where they would insert a fine needle into the uterus and draw amniotic fluid to examine babys chromosomes. With that comes risk of rupturing the amniotic sac and miscarriage. Brad and I talked and we are not willing to jeopardize our baby, healthy or not, for a test we will know the results of for sure when its born 5 months from now. So now we say lots of prayers, wait for the last part of the blood work results to come back later this week, and wait 6 weeks to try and get a better detailed ultrasound to more accurately tell if all other parts of the baby are developing normally... So far baby looks good and is developing right on track with the due date... Even though its still uncertain what were dealing with, I am going to continue to say my prayers, and be just as excited about the new life we have created! No matter what!! Your prayers would be greatly appreciated!
