Sooooo..... I have been grateful for years that Steve decided to no longer ride his motorcycle on the streets because other vehicles are usually the cause of serious injuries and fatalities of motorcyclists. He only rides on closed tracks with other motorcyclists in non-timed skill enhancement events (not races). He is a skilled rider and has been doing this for years, constantly learning and improving. And while hes had several accidents on his bike on his numerous track days, he has never gotten hurt more than some bruises (to his body and ego). But all that changed a few weeks ago. He went down in what should have been a fairly non-dangerous way (the tires washed out from under him while going through a turn), but as he was sliding across the pavement in his reinforced suit that makes him look like a power ranger, something caught somehow and caused him to flip across the pavement. During the flips, he broke a bone that helps hold his shoulder in place and after much back and forth with doctors, he finally got in with the shoulder guru who was baffled as to why there was any question about if he needs surgery or not. He said he needed it and he needed it ASAP. He pulled some strings and Steve in for surgery at 6 am Tuesday morning in Baltimore. The surgery is very involved and will take 4-5 hours! Needless to say, hes nervous about the whole thing and we were both caught a bit off guard because the doctor that sent him to this guy for a 2nd opinion seemed pretty sure he didnt need surgery. Frustrating that here is is over 3 1/2 weeks later and hes just now getting the answer weve been waiting for. Could have been a few weeks into recovery by now.... But, at least hell be in the hands of the best doctor available. He will be in a funny brace that will cause his arm to stick out to the side for 4 weeks and Im sure will be miserable. Then another 2 weeks before he can even begin physical therapy... Long road to hoe for a millisecond incident caused by his tires not being warmed up enough to grip properly on the track... Ugh! Thanks to the miracle of modern technology, if you want to check out his tumble, heres the link to the 1 minute video. Hes the one in the black suit which will become painfully obvious around the 45th second... For better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health... ;-) Love my hubby and wishing him a speedy recovery!!!
