Sooooo...my dad says I need a real name for Mama. He believes her current name doesnt do her justice and/or sounds like a stereotypical name somebody from Oklahoma would name their pet. Originally, I felt the same way and had every intention of changing her name to Mariah. And then I adopted her. Since then, Ive defended the name Mama because Marv and I were so dysfunctional as a family that we needed a wise, old Mama to get us in check and she definitely has that air about her. So Im putting it on the social media table for discussion. Should Mama remain Mama or does she deserve a unique name specific to her? If so, what should that name be? Keep in mind that Im obviously partial to M names because of the Mia Foundation and even though Mama isnt a a Mia dog, an M name would probably fit in well since I already have a Marvin. :) Also keep in mind that Mama is definitely wise beyond her years. I think the two years old that one vet estimated her to be is far too young. She does have some gray in her muzzle and I wouldnt be a bit surprised if she was actually four or five years old. Ive been putting off our initial new patient appointment with my vet because Im a little scared at what I might hear. And even though the hints of gray in her muzzle might hint at a dog thats four or five, her manners, personality, and energy levels point to a dog that is even several years beyond that. Perhaps her Summer spent as a stray before being found aged her prematurely but Mama would never be suited for some young, hip and modern name. She may not be as old as Mary but she certainly is no Mariah. :)
