Sooooo....... someone just sent me a link to an article on a web site called governmentisgood (I kid you not). The site is written by a Professor of Politics (Douglas J. Amy), to whom I just sent the following e-mail. I will let you know how--or if--he responds. ----------------------------------------- Dear Prof. Amy, I am a fairly well-known voluntaryist/anarchist--or anti-statist, you could say--who believes that government is, by its very nature, inherently illegitimate, immoral and destructive. In light of your web site (governmentisgood) you obviously believe otherwise. Given that youre a professor of politics, I think youre about as qualified as anyone could possibly be to do something that I constantly have a very hard time getting advocates of government to do: specifically answer a series of questions about what you advocate and what you believe. (I would, of course, be happy to answer any questions you have for me, as well.) Im not even asking for a debate, really, but for clear and precise answers about YOUR position, and I would post the entire exchange, unedited, on my YouTube channel and my web site (LarkenRose). You would, of course, be welcome to use the recording anywhere and in whatever way you want as well. Im sure youre very busy, but I believe that in less than an hour, we could have a civil, substantive discussion, of a sort rarely heard anywhere these days. I am proud to wear the label anti-government and you are obviously proudly pro-government. At the very least, we ought to be able to clarify exactly what we disagree on, and why. I think that making such a discussion public would be a useful tool for helping people think about the issues and concepts. If you agree, I would like to arrange to have and record such a discussion at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Larken Rose larken@larkenrose
