Sooooo.... this has been an unforgettable week. My mother has been in Mercy hospital in Fort Smith for a full week as of tonight and Ive been staying at a hotel a few blocks away. She had a kidney stone and went into kidney failure last Tuesday and it has been a roller coaster ride ever since. The stone has been obliterated (turned to dust, as the surgeon put it!) and we finally get to go home in the morning. I am grateful for so much this week -- a partner who has picked up the slack on the farm (though he didnt castrate our first batch of piggies while I was gone, darn it -- I thought for sure I was going to miss out on that fun job!!!), my ex-husband who will always be friend and family to me for offering to help out any way he can, along with numerous family, friends and FB friends for being there both physically and in spirit. Thanks to Moms friends for being her safety net and calling constantly to check on her and especially to the friends who dragged her kicking and screaming to the ER last week cause she didnt want to leave her Poodle Puff alone.... (and another thanks to AH for taking care of the Poodle Puff, which he has renamed the Puddle Puff -- dont ask, just send carpet cleaner!....) And thanks to those healthcare professionals who truly love their job and care about the people who depend on them. After a week of dealing with this complete and total SCAM of a healthcare system we have, it is truly inspiring to know there are some really great, caring, nurturing people out there. (Met plenty who didnt fall into that category, which is as it has always been. I hope one day they get the same care they have doled out...) MANY thanks to the CNAs (otherwise known as slaves, bedpan changers, butt-wipers and gophers) who do their jobs with a smile on their faces and kindness in their hearts. My dad told me many times that a doctor or surgeon can save your life, but after that, youd better run for it before they kill you! We are getting the heck out of Dodge early in the morning before they discover were gone! ;-)
