Sorry I have not posted an update for a while, but since my last post I was involved in the Municipal Provincial Convention that took place in Corner Brook from October 9 through October 12 and just after that I went on vacation getting back mid-November. In order for Council to bring forward a balance Budget in December, budget consultations took up much of the last few weeks of November and early part of December. Council and staff spent many, many hours trying to find ways to reduce cost while maintaining services for our residents. I attended a very interesting session at the R.A. Pollett Building in late November where an economist from Corner Brook; Mr. Dennis Bruce, made a presentation on the values of fracking throughout the global economy, and its potential to ignite the local economy. I personally found the presentation very informative. Congratulations is extended to the Booster Club who; through their hard work, were successful in bringing the Corner Brook Royals back to the City. Good job. I would like to remind everyone that the M & M 2015 Canadian Junior Curling Championship is scheduled to take place in Corner Brook during the weeks of January 24 to February 1, 2015. Get your tickets and come out to watch the young Curlers from across Canada entertain you. You may be watching a future Olympic Gold Medallist. TSN will be televising both the female and male semi-final and final games on January 31, and February 1, 2015. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our City and our people. Christmas seemed to have come from out of nowhere and now we are into January. I would like to remind you that Christmas trees can be placed at curb side on your regular garbage collection day between January 5 – 10 and we will have them chipped. Please ensure the trees are free from decorations. Happy New Year Everyone and welcome to 2015.
