Sorry. Question 1 of 4 Answer: It represents his stolen ethnic identity On February 21... Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska. At the age of six Malcolm was taken in by welfare workers after racists murdered his father. He moved to Boston as a teenager and got involved in crime, and was sent to prison at the age of 21. In prison he learned of Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam. Many of Muhammad’s followers were called Black Muslims, and supported African-American nationalism and separatism. Malcolm was deeply interested and learned all he could about their beliefs. He then took on the name of Malcolm X to symbolize what he felt was his stolen African identity. Malcolm’s strong influence and questionable and often violent and aggressive actions soon became so out of control that he was suspended from the Nation of Islam. Malcolm then went on a pilgrimage to Mecca that soothed his anger, and he returned to America as a more moderate leader. Animosity was still there, however, and on this day in 1965 Nation of Islam members in New York City assassinated Malcolm X.
