Sorry about not starting a new question. Ill figure this out yet! I would like to see a panel on how to smoothly pass the reins from one group to another. As fans get older, many of us no longer have the stamina to keep working at the pace we once did; however, Ive seen more and more older con-running fans being shoved entirely out of the committee because we may question how something is being run. I for one am always open to new change, but I also came to realize that if somethings working well, why change it? I am not against change when it is necessary, but is it always necessary? Of course, I need to be careful, I was told by a group that I needed to go through 2 years convention chair training to run a con Id chaired or co-chair 4 times as well as chaired or worked on a large number of conventions running from 200 attendees to several thousand. I dont expect special treatment, but it would be nice to be acknowledge that I do have a vague idea of what Im doing. A number of other older fans I know have also felt like theyve been discouraged from participating. Any suggestions on finding a happy medium would be greatly appreciated. I think this is a great group, who have a tendency to micromanage, instead of letting their trained people do the work they no how to do. We always need new blood. All groups do. What I dont understand is why those who have over 30 years experience working on the event suddenly have no voice in running it. Is this natural for many conventions? Should we just shut up and try to find some way to enjoy the con? (Something I just cant figure out how to do--doesnt mean I wont, just means for now I cant). I think it would be much better if we all worked together, but Im not sure thats possible. A number of us almost feel like that somewhere along the way the con we loved got highjacked, and we were kicked to the side like an old pair of shoes. Of course, were dealing with some pretty hurt feelings. This has been going on a while, but Ive only really discussed it now, because I had to wait until I could talk about these issues without getting unnecessarily anger. Thoughts? Suggestions? 15 mins · Like
