Sorry for posting a lot, but this is an issue that always comes up and Ill be more than glad to address it before it becomes a major problem. There will be some unhappy campers with regards to res life assignments. Understandably, we upperclassmen understand how frustrating it can be to put down a request on the same footing as many other people and be offered something completely different when someone next to us got what we wanted. Unfortunately, it didnt work out. What happens next? 1) You get really upset with how the system worked out. Maybe it played you. Maybe it brought you up only to take you down. Regardless, what do you benefit from this? 2) You call, email, fax Res Life about how you want to change your assignment. Fair enough, but res life is closed for the weekend and you will be unable to change your assignment until the second week of school. Just policy. 3) You give your residence hall / roommate a chance. Who knows? You may possibly have been wrong to be upset about something that you thought was going to change your life but didnt. More than likely, youll find at least one thing good from the assignment and youll take that to the bank. The fact is, if youre upset about something, Im sorry that it didnt work out. I cant offer any valid explanation that would make sense other than Res Life tried its best to appease everyones request. Unfortunately, not 100% satisfaction can be guaranteed. But the point I want to stress is the following: YOU ARE IN COLLEGE! You have the opportunity of a lifetime just by applying here, going to Orientation, receiving housing assignments, and in the future moving in. There are thousands of millions who would give anything to be given the same opportunity. Dont let something small blind you from what youve been given!
