Sorry for the lack of audio in the beginning - my dad realized - TopicsExpress

Sorry for the lack of audio in the beginning - my dad realized what was going on, late, and started shooting from inside. Audio (including birds and traffic [sorry about that]) begins at apx. 1:50, when he came outside. He was trying to film on the DL (so the guy - or his JW crew in the car a few feet away - wouldnt notice and leave), so the audio and video angle is not great. Oh well. It might look like I was about to jump the guy, but I wasnt - I just speak very expressively. I promise, I wasnt being mean or intentionally threatening in any way. My tone and mannerisms were consistent throughout our conversation. Part of what you dont get to hear in the beginning is Fred showing me a pamphlet which talks about the poor state of human affairs, and hope for change for the better... Jesus, and a loving god, is of course his stated hope and solution. I told him that I too despair about the state of human affairs, hope for, and work toward betterment - but that religion is not the answer. I then went on to tell him that that book, and what hes doing - evangelizing - is a cause of the poor state of human affairs. I went on to tell him that a great deal of the racism and bigotry in this country is justified, using that book. I asked him if he thought slavery - the ownership of another human being - is immoral. He agreed that it was. I asked him if he knew that slavery is condoned in the Old and New Testaments, that the Bible says you can beat a slave - and as long as they dont die within three days - its OK with God; OK with Jesus. He did not know that slavery is condoned in the NT, and I dont think this issue has ever been presented to him in such a manner. I asked him if he knew that slavery in this country was justified almost entirely with the words from that book - the words, allegedly inspired by the highest moral authority in the universe. He acknowledged that this is the case. During this part of the conversation is when he first started crying - but he actually /thanked me, twice/ for saying it. I think I brought some of his cognitive dissonance to the surface. We talked about quite a few other things, but I just want to quickly touch on the second time he cried, what you dont get to hear right before the audio starts, and what I said to him as he was leaving... (Audio begins) Me: It undermines your point, just a minute ago... He was trying to claim that if something is true, it doesnt change over time - that only lies change. I told him the JW doctrine has changed over time. He laughed, acknowledged it, and changed the subject. The second time he teared up is when I told him there is no archaeological evidence for the enslavement of the Jews or the Exodus. It seemed an odd thing to tear up about, but he did, no less. At the end of the conversation, I shook Freds hand, and asked that he and his cohorts take the rest of the day off - go have some lunch and stop trying to indoctrinate my neighbors. Thanks for watching, I hope you found it informative and/or entertaining - and I hope that audio/video wasnt too annoying. Cheers! :) https://youtube/watch?v=QmVL-mWyLWs&feature=youtu.be
