Sorry for the long silence everybody! Georgie has been unstoppable in his recovery, whether it be walking over 2000ft without assistance or baking brownies. Most time is now spent out of bed. His biggest challenges are still with speech and memory, but its coming back a little every day. He can recall conversations more accurately, remembers what hes eaten, and recall his daily activities; unfortunately, new names are still difficult. Despite his remaining challenges, the doctors have been very surprised with his quick recovery. For the last week Georgie has been complaining about the vision in his right eye. Vision impairment is fairly common with brain injury and is expected to heal over time. One thing that has made Georgies difficult vision more bearable has been switching him from glasses to contacts. My suspicion is that the lenses plus Georgies strong prescription distort what he sees so much that it strains his brain. Ive realized that a lot of you have been worried about Georgies personality remaining intact. No worries, Georgie is coming back as Georgie. Hes been humoring everybody who comes in his usual way, and hes always very thoughtful with the people around him. He offers food and checks in with how were doing, and wants to hang out whenever possible. Although Georgie still gets frustrated with being stuck in the hospital, hes been much more understanding about the necessity of being in the hospital. There still no solid eta for discharge, but were seeing glimpses of it, and the docs are starting to signal that it might be soon. More updates soon!
