Sorry for the sporadic updates. I have really fallen behind with my studies in light of recent events, and so dont have much time to post on here. As expected, over the past week we have been seeing the longest run of below average temperatures for quite some time, with frost and ice, and sleet and snow for some. Albeit, conditions have still be quite marginal for snow, hence accumulations of snow have not to be very widespread, and the cold has been far from record breaking. We did see some of the coldest night time temperatures for a few years, but that was more a case of how mild it has been overall for so long rather than how cold this cold spell has been. It looks like we are now going to be returning to the pattern we saw earlier in the season. Periods of milder, wetter and windier conditions interspersed with colder/cooler and more showery spells, where showers may turn wintry, especially to northern hills but to some lower levels and a bit further south at times. Still the risk of some frost and ice during any colder and calmer spells. There is the risk of some particularly windy weather followed by colder conditions around the 29th of January. One to keep an eye on.
