Sorry guys if I seem or come off a bit pushy with NAMIwalk. It just means so much to me. If I have ever touched any of you my earnest request is that you support me in this cause. Never knew something could hurt so bad and be so rewarding all at the same time. God has chosen our family to be the voice for those afflicted with mental illness. The goal is to encourage those affected and their loved ones to begin having the conversations. ADHD, ADD, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, OCD, Borderline Personality disorders,etc- they are all real issues. Communities of color have been conditioned to turn a blind eye or to pray for deliverance. The truth is deliverance is among us. It is found in solidarity. It is found in acceptance. Young males are affected the most. Their illnesses overlooked and instead masked as ill adjustment to society. Our men are labeled as criminal and they have very little places of support to build from. It would not have mattered to me. I would never have given mental illness a second thought. My son was clinically diagnosed five months ago and life has been different. There are days full of frustration. There are days full of triumph. Lately, I have had days full of gratitude. Family and friends have been so kind. People I have reached out to for support havent hesitated to render a kind word or helping hand. Truth is, you can see God in anything if you choose to. All I see is just that. Im prayerful that through this journey we spark some conversation. Im prayerful that we laugh and cry along the way together. Most of all I pray through togetherness and purpose we Stomp Out The Stigma. Donate at namiwalks.nami.org/mom Grab a tee. White tees are $20 Black $25 and walk with us on November 15th. If I havent told you thank you both my son and I are eternally grateful.
