(Sorry, men, for the following TMI moment. Trust me, if you dont have breasts, or dont have a daughter, you wont want to read the following.) ** ** ** Okay, is it just us girls now? Good. Guess what! This post is so timely - we just went shopping for a trainer bra for my 10-year-old. The choices available to us, I kid you not, were: hot neon colors or leopard print, with underwires and push-up written on the tags, with pictures of little girls chests on the tags. There was literally ONE white cotton bra, too small for any human over the age of 3 to wear. The store employee I turned to for help was a grandma. She *literally* snickered at my naivete and said shed just bought her granddaughter some cute bras at the objection of her own grown daughter, the girls mom. She figured Id get over it eventually. WOW!! So into the cart went some size XS sport bras. And I grumbled silently, realizing THIS was my daughters first bra-buying experience and Id better watch what I said out loud, lest that go into the memory banks, too. So on A Mighty Girl FB page this morning, what pops up? This WY teen girl had the same experience when she went bra-shopping with her little sister and found only underwires and push-ups. A teenager felt the same as I did! What? I put my dollars down for her - a tangible vote toward something better, something more age appropriate. My daughters TEN for petes sake. It doesnt have to be white cotton, I guess, but certainly not push-up hottie bras, either. So I made my first donation to a Kickstarter project and I wish her well. And shes a senior in high school. THATs some good parenting, and strong girls right there. I can support that, gladly, and hope my own kids turn out just as well.
