Sorry this is long. 2015s coming up and heres the plan . . . Being at the internship over the last 6 months and “working” in comics for over 3 years has opened my eyes to a lot of art. I usually respond with a “Whoa!” or “I like that!” to the pieces that appeal to me. But I never actually question why they appeal to me in the first place. I’m tired of comic reviews being centered around the writing and I’m tired of squirming when someone asks why I like the things I do. My goal in 2015 is to try to figure that out, so I created a blog fittingly called “I Like That.” I’m going to write about a different artist each week in 2015 and attempt to express why their art sticks in my head, gets me thinking, or shakes me around one way or another. I’m also going to post a piece of their work that I especially enjoy on my various social media outlets each day of that week. Some disclaimers: - I won’t highlight or write about any artists I’ve published through Yeti Press. They’re good though, trust me. - This will by no means be a list of “Essential,” “Greatest,” or “Best of’s.” I’m going to stick with artists whose work I’m attracted to and explore that. Some of these artists will be from comics, but I also want to get outside my comfort zone and look elsewhere. Please feel free to engage in discussion, offer criticism, and give recommendations as this goes along. Art is fun. And scary. And liberating. And joyous. Now I just want to learn how to write about it.
